SAMAND - the Iranian national automobile. In Persian, samand is the name for a breed of fast horse. The name was given by Iranian ex president Mohamed Khatami, who took the idea from one of Ferdowsi Shahnameh's epic poems.

Founded in 1962 by Khayami family today IKCO is the largest vehicle manufacturer in the Middle East, Central Asia and North Africa. The annual car produce exceed 1 000 000 units including automobiles, trucks, buses and pick-ups. This is the reason IKCO to be at 19-th place in largest vehicle manufacturers list.
